Ryan Mattes serves as the Director of Business Development & Retail Operations for Pugh Self-Protection & Combatives, where he combines a deep passion for personal safety with years of hands-on training experience. He began his journey with the company as a college student, working part-time as a Retail Operations Specialist and serving as a role player during active shooter response trainings. After graduation, Ryan quickly transitioned into a full-time role, assuming leadership responsibilities at the company level.



Through hundreds of hours as a role player in scenario-based trainings, Ryan developed an unmatched understanding of human behavior under stress and the realities of critical incident response. His personable approach and practical expertise now make him a valuable Lead Instructor for the company’s Active Shooter Response Training Program, where he empowers participants to build confidence and take ownership of their safety.

In addition to his instructional role, Ryan leads the company’s Retail Division, guiding clients through responsible firearm ownership and helping them make informed, educated decisions when purchasing firearms and related equipment. His unique combination of training experience, leadership skills, and client-focused service has made him a trusted resource for individuals and organizations alike
